The Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory provides strength-based, out-of-school-time apprenticeships to Philadelphia youth. Through immersion in the maritime arts and sciences, youth build on their own social and emotional strengths and develop the competencies and resilience necessary to thrive in post-secondary education and employment.
Apprentices in our RiverGuides program train to become both watershed educators and environmental advocates. Working with PWBF science staff, RiverGuides explore the Delaware River in rowboats to perform environmental science work, bring the public out on the river in their rowboat fleet, and engage in their own restoration projects within the local watershed.
