Driving on Sunshine
Students explore engineering by designing and making a solar-powered model car.
Capture the excitement of model car racing and challenge students to learn more about engineering, electricity, and problem solving. Volunteers guide groups of 5-6 students aged 11-16 through the challenge of designing and constructing a solar-powered model car. This activity requires a small investment (approximately US$20) for electrical motors and solar panels.
Audience: students aged 11-16.
This hands-on approach to learning is a powerful motivator for teaching kids about solar power, photovoltaic cells, and the engineering principles behind generating electricity from solar power.
